To act as an agent for others, in expectation of compensation, requires that the agent be licensed by the State of California.
Licensing requirements
To obtain the your real estate license one must first take a 3 unit college level course in California Real Estate principles, pass the final examination and receive a certificate of completion. With this certificate one can then apply for and take the license examination.
After successfully passing the examination and receiving the license it is then necessary to complete two, 3 unit, college level courses, from a list of courses approved by the Department of Real Estate, in the ensuing eighteen months, in order to retain license privileges.
In order to be eligible to take the Broker's examination one must have worked in the field of real estate, on a fulltime basis, for two years or be the holder of a four-year college degree.
